WHAT NEEDS A BUILDING PERMIT
  • Change of Use of Existing Buildings
  • New Buildings (including sheds over 50 square feet)
  • Additions
  • Decks and deck alterations
  • Any installation or extension of any electrical system including generators
  • Install/replace Gas/Fuel Heating appliance
  • Plumbing - new installation or major repair
  • Installation of a solid fuel burning appliance and associated chimney or flue 
  • Installing heating equipment, fuel storage tanks or changing type of fuel
  • Fuel tank removal or replacement
  • Structural features - adding a larger door, making a window larger, removing walls, increasing living space
  • Repairs to existing structures. (types of repairs - structural, roof, electrical plumbing, etc.)
  • Installing a new roof even over an existing roof, installing new siding
  • Driveway construction or increase of width
  • Water and sewer connections
  •  Fences 
  • Above or in-ground swimming pools, hot tub (spas)

FEES
  • $200.00 for the first $10,000 worth of work to be done plus $20.00 per every thousand worth of work thereafter ( C/O or C/C included )
  • Building  Permit Fees may be tripled if work is started before permits are issued or a stop work order will be issued
  • ALL BUILDING PERMITS EXPIRE 6 MONTHS FROM DATE OF ISSUE – can be extended for a 6 month periods for an additional $100.00 renewal fee.  EXPIRED permits fee - $125.00 to close and issue C/C and or C/O for expired permit  
  • Municipal Search - $250.00 Residential, $250.00 Commercial. Original Signed and Notarized Smoke Affidavit.  Inspection is required only when open permits or open violations are found in the file.

​WHAT DOES NOT NEED A PERMIT
  • Painting, window replacement of the same size
  • Non-structural features that DO NOT affect egress, safety or separation.

WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE NEEDED TO OBTAIN A BUILDING PERMIT
  • Building Permit Application filled out completely and MUST be signed and dated
  • Proper Insurance papers submitted (as listed on application)
  • For owner occupied property, form BP-1 may be submitted as insurance exemption
  • Plans and drawings for the minor projects
  • Design Professional plans for larger projects 
  • Up to date survey of property showing buildings, pool, shed, fences, etc.
  • Plus, any other information that may be required by the Code Enforcement Official


PERIODIC INSPECTIONS
  • ​​Fire Safety - Commercial, every 3 years
  • Fire Safety - Public Assembly, every year
  • Fire Safety - Operational Permit, every year
  • Fire Safety - Hazardous Use / Occupancy, every year
  • Fire Safety - Mixed Use (Commercial and residential), every year
  • Fire Safety - Residential Rental, every year
  • Rental Registration - Required annually for all residential rental units.
